Obesity Medicine 2024 - Endobariatrics: Current Practice & Emerging Applications (Recorded)

This talk will focus on minimally-invasive weight loss procedures known as the endoscopic bariatric therapies (“endobariatrics”). It will provide an overview of currently available endobariatric therapies and how they fit within the comprehensive, longitudinal, and multidisciplinary approach to obesity management. We will focus on primary endobariatric therapies, including the endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty and intragastric balloons, as well as revisional endobariatric therapies for those with weight return after metabolic and bariatric surgery, including the transoral outlet reduction and sleeve gastrectomy revision. The majority of the talk will center around endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty, given its growing popularity as a non-surgical alternative in obesity treatment. For each procedure, the efficacy, safety, recovery, and patient-selection will be discussed. Finally, we will touch on emerging directions of endobariatrics, including novel techniques, combination therapy, and small-bowel targeted devices.
