Obesity Medicine 2024 - Hunger, Satiety, and Mental Health: A Complex Dance (Recorded)

Stress, anxiety, and depression have an outsized role on the appetite regulatory process in the body via complex hormonal pathways. Though this area is well researched and there is a copious body of literature on the topic, it is also underrepresented within the area of obesity medicine education. Dr. Knopke will review this literature and the underlying mechanisms by which our appetite and satiety is regulated in relationship to stress and mood. He will also compare these hormonal pathways to explore what relevance there is to the newer GLP-1/GIP type anti-obesity medications. Through this exploration, there will be a review of possible novel treatment approaches to aid the stressed patient in losing weight.
