When evaluating patients with obesity, there are certain tools that obesity medicine specialist can use to better assess patient status. This session will discuss the use of 3 common components used to assess patients with obesity. A metabolic analyzer can help identify patients with a reduced resting metabolic rate which can make weight loss more challenging. There are unique EKG changes in patients with obesity and certain EKG changes play an important role in pharmacotherapy decision making. Body composition is an important metric for both initial assessment and continued monitoring to assess fat and lean mass. Participants will identify the strengths and limitations of bioimpedance and DEXA scans and how to apply them in obesity treatment.
