Obesity Medicine 2026 - Obesity Management in People with Chronic Liver Diseases (Recorded)

Obesity is highly prevalent, making coexistence with chronic liver diseases such as steatotic liver disease, autoimmune liver diseases, liver cirrhosis, and pre- and post-liver transplant, inevitable. Weight loss in patients with chronic liver diseases improves overall prognosis, positively impacts the clinical course and outcomes of comorbid conditions, and advances physical and mental health and well-being. Many patients with chronic liver diseases will benefit from evidence-based scientific obesity management, however, this requires careful assessment before initiation. This session will inform attendees beyond the conventional approach to obesity management. It will address the unique needs of patients with chronic liver diseases and the importance of comprehensive and individualized approaches to weight loss. During the session, we will explore how to utilize evidence-based interventions in all aspects of obesity management (nutrition therapy, physical activity, pharmacotherapy, and bariatric surgery) in this complex category of patients. Attendees will learn how to optimize interventions to improve health outcomes, avert morbidity and mortality, and improve quality of life.
