Addressing the Beast “Insulin Resistance” in the Management of Obesity (Recorded Webinar)

Insulin resistance (IR) is a common biochemical abnormality in patients with excess adiposity, obesity, and its complications. The key factor in successful weight management is identifying and educating patients about IR and the role of proper nutrition, physical activity, and medication in treating IR.

This presentation will cover the definition, stages, and measurement of insulin resistance in patient-friendly language. Dr Ahmed will discuss the five interventions (Low carb diet, physical activity, medications, weight loss, metabolic surgery) to optimize beta cell health and improve insulin resistance. The discussion will include utilizing nutritional ketosis to treat IR. Advances in research on the role of gut bacteria, individual carbohydrate sensitivity, and continuous glucose monitoring for personalized diet for patients with IR will be at the conclusion.
