Inequality in Infectious Disease: COVID, Obesity and Patients of Color
This session will explore the virulence of COVID infections in different populations. People with obesity are more likely to develop complications of COVID-19 infections with higher hospitalization rates and mortality. The added risk of infection complications also applies to people of color, especially those who also have obesity. Attendees will learn to recognize the specific risks COVID-19 in people of color with obesity as well as identify the role of prevention, early detection and aggressive treatment in these patients.
