Obesity Medicine 2025 - Evidence-Based Management of MASLD and MASH in Patients with Obesity (Recorded)

Up to 90% of patients with obesity are affected by MASLD, with a sizable portion at risk for progressing to MASH and liver fibrosis. This session will present practical strategies for early identification and risk stratification using non-invasive diagnostic tools. Evidence-based lifestyle interventions, including specific dietary approaches and physical activity recommendations, will be discussed in detail, emphasizing their effectiveness in reversing MASLD, and improving MASH. The critical role of weight loss in managing these conditions will be highlighted, with a focus on achieving and maintaining a >10% weight reduction. Available and emerging pharmacological options, such as GLP-1 receptor agonists, dual and triple agonists, SGLT2 inhibitors, and resmetirom, will be explored, along with strategies for their integration into comprehensive obesity treatment plans. Given the increased cardiovascular risk in patients with MASLD/MASH, the session will also cover the comprehensive management of cardiovascular risk factors. Attendees will gain confidence in identifying at-risk patients, implementing targeted interventions, and optimizing outcomes in this rapidly evolving field of obesity-related liver disease.
