Obesity Medicine 2025 - Not Your Fault: Ineffective Treatment Response & Strategies to Move Forward (Recorded)

Obesity is a heterogeneous, complex, chronic, and progressive disease. It is essential that clinicians recognize that a patient’s disease response to treatment can vary significantly. In this session attendees will be presented with clinical evidence demonstrating predictors of non-responders, learn about the importance of adjunctive therapies and the role of combination treatment modalities in improving outcomes. Participants will examine the psychological and physiological implications of obesity treatment plans falling short of desired outcomes, as well as internal and external factors influencing success. The session emphasizes the need for long-term support, continuous patient engagement, and a multifactorial approach to addressing obesity as a chronic disease. Evidence will be presented on the benefits of combining anti-obesity medications (AOMs) with bariatric surgery and the different mechanisms of action. The session highlights the importance of delaying disease progression, improving disease complications, and fostering a collaborative environment between patients and clinicians. By addressing weight bias, promoting responsible prescribing practices, and leveraging technology for enhanced outcomes, clinicians will be better equipped to overcome challenges and support patients in achieving improved health and well-being.
