Obesity Medicine 2025 - Translating Physical Activity Consensus Recommendations to Obesity Care (Recorded)

The core of obesity treatment are lifestyle factors including physical activity. The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) commissioned and published an update and contemporary perspective in the form of a consensus paper led by Dr. Jakicic. This session will highlight the contemporary information from the consensus paper that is pertinent to clinicians. Of particular interest are the recommendations for physical activity within the context of medical treatments for obesity, which include pharmacotherapy and bariatric and metabolic surgery. In addition, this session will highlight important considerations that apply to qualifications for physical activity professionals to assist clinicians in understanding the differences in professional certifications and how these may impact the referral of their patients to health-fitness professionals. The session will include examples of patient case-studies to enhance the application and understanding of the information presented as it applies to the clinical care of obesity.
