Obesity Medicine 2025 - Unmasking Lipedema in Obesity: Key Diagnostic Tips & Management Strategies (Recorded)
This session will include a focused overview of lipedema, bringing together unique perspectives from an occupational therapist (CLT), patient/advocate, and obesity medicine physician, combining decades of experience with identifying, treating, and living with lipedema. Though lipedema is not rare, it is rare that it is properly identified. Instead, lipedema is commonly misdiagnosed as obesity or lymphedema. This presentation will review diagnostic criteria, enabling obesity medicine clinicians to distinguish between the three conditions. This session will include conservative and surgical management strategies and address insurance coverage for treatments. Clinicians will gain essential knowledge on diagnostic protocols, common treatments, resources for continued care for their patients, and information on insurance coverage - all things they can directly implement immediately into their daily practice.
