Obesity Medicine 2026 - Breaking Through Weight Loss Plateaus and Redefining Treatment Success in Obesity Care (Recorded)

Medication nonresponse, intolerance, and treatment plateaus are among the most common challenges encountered in clinical obesity treatment, and they often require a nuanced approach to resolve. Rather than focusing primarily on weight loss plateaus themselves, this session reframes the clinical goal to incorporate the meaningful health gains seen with obesity pharmacotherapy, even when the magnitude of weight loss does not align with patient or provider expectations. Attendees will take away practical, clinic-ready strategies for managing plateaus, including medication optimization, switching or combination pharmacotherapy, dietary interventions, and when to consider metabolic and bariatric surgery. The emphasis will be on evaluating and communicating treatment success based on improvements in cardiometabolic risk, liver disease, obstructive sleep apnea, functional outcomes, and quality of life, regardless of whether additional weight loss occurs.
