Physical Activity in the Age of Telehealth and COVID-19 (Recorded Webinar)

The global COVID-19 pandemic has turned our patient’s lives and routines upside down. Physical activity has been a struggle for many of our patients and can be one of the most difficult behaviors to establish for many individuals, whether they have obesity or not. Due to the pandemic, long time and brand-new gym aficionados were shut out from gyms and group fitness classes. Routines, which are key triggers for engaging in health behaviors, were thrown out the window. Fear set in, especially for our patients, all of whom are high risk for serious adverse outcomes from the coronavirus.

In this webinar, we will review the impact of physical activity on immune health in patients with obesity and metabolic disease. We will review the data on how the pandemic has affected physical activity levels. We will discuss how we can use technology and virtual fitness options with our patients, and how we can use telemedicine and behavioral strategies to help our patients overcome barriers to being active, including the new barriers imposed on us by the current pandemic.
